CLEVELAND – Fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Charge and Cleveland Monsters have extra incentive to support America Recycles Day this Wednesday, Nov. 15, thanks to the “Tech for Tickets” electronics recycling event.

The teams and partner MCPC, a global technology endpoint management company, will be accepting old technology devices between Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse and Gateway East Parking Garage on E. 6th St. from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Fans who recycle electronics at this location will receive a free pair of Cavs tickets for Sunday, Nov. 26 vs. the Toronto Raptors or Tuesday, Nov. 28 vs. the Atlanta Hawks. They will also receive a voucher valid for four tickets to a Charge or Monsters game.

The following electronic devices are accepted:

  • LCD monitors
  • Mobile devices such as smartphones, cell phones and tablets
  • Data storage devices
  • Networking devices such as routers, switches and hubs
  • Printers and fax machines
  • Peripherals, such as keyboards, mice and docking stations

The following items are not accepted:

The MCPC “Go Green Machine” truck will also be at the event. Its colorful graphics help educate the community on the importance of good recycling practices and the devastating effect that technology device resource needs have had on the world’s gorilla population. Electronic devices rely on components containing elements that are extracted from coltan, a mineral mined in the same geographical areas in which gorilla populations live. Fortunately, electronics can be recycled, which keeps them out of landfills and allows the minerals inside to be reclaimed and sold to companies to make new electronic devices. More information about this impact on the gorilla population can be found in this MCPC blog post.

“We’ve always been dedicated to providing IT Asset Disposition services for organizations. This event allows us to extend our expertise to the community by engaging in community initiatives that align perfectly with our mission,” says Michael Trebilcock, MCPC EVP of Development. “Our goal is not only to recycle electronics but to inspire communities to embrace recycling as a means of safeguarding our precious natural resources. Together, we can make a significant impact, and we invite everyone to join us in this collective effort for a greener, more sustainable future.”

“We are thrilled to partner with MCPC on America Recycles Day. Offering an outlet for electronic waste for our fans and the community is incredibly important to the Cavs and Rock Entertainment Group. MCPC provides responsible and secure recycling of e-waste that also contributes to conservation efforts, and we are thankful to advance this sustainability initiative,” added Cavs Vice President of Sustainability and Environmental Services Danielle Doza.

Once the event is complete, MCPC will recycle the electronics at the Secure Technology Asset Disposition (STAD) center located in Old Brooklyn, Ohio, and use the money to support gorilla habitat conservation.
