With its prime geographical location at the heart of the Inland Northwest region, Spokane offers unlimited outdoor recreational opportunities including biking, rafting, camping, golf, skiing and more. No matter the season, the city is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts whether they are looking for a top-thrill adventure or simply a relaxing nature walk.
With the city's close proximity to five national parks, there are plenty of places to hike, bike, camp or picnic. In addition, golfers can enjoy the city's 33 local courses. Fishers and boaters can take advantage of 76 local lakes.
Within a few hours of the city are five ski resorts including the Mount Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park which features trails for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and dog sledding. The city is also close to numerous awe-inspiring beauties including the Spokane Falls, Columbia River Gorge and the Grand Coulee Dam.
In addition, Spokane's bustling downtown offers rich history (more than 50% of Spokane's downtown is designated as historic), small-town charm and traditions. For example, each year the city holds a 10-day Lilac Festival celebrating the coming of spring as well as HoopFest, the nation's largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
For sports fans there's Spokane Arena — home of the Chiefs hockey and Shock arena football teams. This 12,500 seat facility has hosted the 2001 NCAA Women's Basketball West Regional, 2003 and 2007 NCAA Men's Basketball 1st and 2nd rounds and the 2007 U.S. Figure Skating Championship.
With its favorable soil and weather conditions, the city is also home to 11 wineries.
